D.O.M., Dipl. O.M., M.S.O.M.

Lara Theragood, D.O.M., is a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine and the proprietor and sole practitioner of North Star Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine in her beloved hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She holds a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College and is a National Board-Certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine through NCCAOM. She also holds bachelor’s degrees in Dance and English from the University of New Mexico.

Dr. Theragood welcomes people from all walks of life and is committed to creating a practice rooted in compassion, respect, inclusivity, and genuine human connection. Her approach to care is informed not only by her clinical training, but by a lifetime of experiences that have deepened her understanding of resilience, healing, and the many different ways people move through profound transitions.

As the former wife of an Army Ranger during the September 11th attacks and the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Dr. Theragood developed a deep respect for service members and their families. In 2002, while at Fort Bragg, she received the Dr. Mary E. Walker Award in recognition of her volunteer work supporting the families of infantry soldiers during some of the most difficult deployments of the post-9/11 era.

She is particularly passionate about supporting people affected by PTSD. Having witnessed the profound ways trauma can affect individuals and families, she approaches this work with compassion, respect, patience, and a deep curiosity & appreciation for each person's unique path toward healing.

From 2020 through 2024, Dr. Theragood served the Española and surrounding communities by providing Acudetox through Community Style Acupuncture at Inside Out Recovery. She is honored to have contributed her skills to this remarkable organization, which provides free, practical, and peer-led support to people recovering from substance use, including assistance with housing, meals, clothing, computer literacy, professional development, and community connection.

Dr. Theragood is also devoted to supporting families through pregnancy, postpartum, and the many transformative experiences of family life. She believes that these transitions deserve care that honors the whole person—body, mind, circumstances, and individual lifestyle & experience.

Outside of the clinic, Lara is a lifelong dancer and wilderness enthusiast. Her relationship with movement, the natural world, and the rhythms of the seasons continues to shape the way she understands health and healing. She strives to live with reverence for the natural world and in harmony with its cycles—an orientation that is central to both her life and her practice.
